Patient Services Associate

Job Description

Facilitate patient intake, obtain IDs & documents necessary for use by internal departments, monitor patient waiting area and answer general inquiries. Complete and update patient demographics. Assist the patient services and processing manager in assigned projects. Candidates with good computer skills and who work well in a fast-paced environment are preferred.


REPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares questionnaires, demographic forms, disclosures, insurance forms, release forms and notices for completion prior to patient arrival.

  • Conducts intake interviews with new or readmitted patients to gather necessary administrative information, assists clients in completing paperwork, explains billing policies/ fees, and answers general inquiries.

  • Reviews Patient administrative information for accuracy; enters information into software database and forwards information to internal departments for further processing.

  • Provides necessary follow up to ensure Patient's intake has been properly facilitates. Forwards copies of completed intake paperwork to clinical file.

  • Posts notices and revised fees in patient reception area.

  • Completes and/or inputs billing/insurance/self-pay information.

  • Assists patients and GRC staff with patient file questions as they occur.

  • Maintains strictest confidentiality, adheres to all HIPAA guideline & regulations.

  • Understand and support the department policies and procedures.

Requirements

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.


SKILLS:

  • Previous experience in a similar work environment.

  • Must have basic knowledge of CPT codes and ICD 10 Codes.

  • Strong phone, verbal and written communication skills along with active listening.

  • Customer focus and adaptability to different personality types.

  • Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and manage time effectively.

  • Capability to run a second monitor.

  • Minimum typing of 30 wpm is required.


EXPERIENCE:

  • 1-2 years Customer Service environment preferred.

  • 1-2 years of experience in a Patient Services Department preferred.

  • 1-2 years of experience with medical software or EMR preferred.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and all areas of scheduling, including medical terminologies, provider templating, and accepted insurance coverage preferred.
